NFAA

The National Field Archery Association (NFAA) is a non-profit organization in the United States dedicated to promoting and expanding the sport of archery. The NFAA hosts various competitions and tournaments throughout the year, including outdoor and indoor target archery events.

General rules

  • Bow draw weight is limited to 80 pounds (36.29 kg).
  • Arrow speed to 300 feet per second (91.44 meter per second) with an allowed variance of 3%.
  • The maximum arrow diameter is 27 / 64th inch (1.07 cm)

Divisions

There are eight divisions:

  • Freestyle - FS
  • Bowhunter freestyle - BHFS
  • Freestyle limited recurve - FSLR
  • Barebow recurve - BBR
  • Traditional - TRAD
  • Freestyle limited - FSL
  • Barebow - BB
  • Longbow - LB

Freestyle

FS
  • Any type of sight.
  • Any type of stabilizers so long as the rear stabilizer doesn’t touch the archer’s body.
  • A mechanical release aid is allowed.

Freestyle limited

FSL
  • Any type of sight.
  • Any type of stabilizers so long as the rear stabilizer doesn’t touch the archer’s body.
  • A mechanical release aid is not allowed

Bowhunter freestyle

BHFS
  • No sight magnification is allowed.
  • A sight with a maximum of five fixed reference points will be allowed and neither the sight nor any reference point shall be moved during a round.
  • Front stabilizer no more than 12 inches (30.48 cm) long measured from the bow's riser.
  • No modifications are allowed once scoring begins.

Freestyle limited recurve

FSLR
  • No sight magnification is allowed.
  • Any type of stabilizers.
  • A mechanical release aid is allowed.

Barebow recurve

BBR
  • An arrow rest, arrow plate and cushion plunger are allowed.
  • A clicker, draw check and level are not allowed.
  • Weights may be added to the lower part of the riser.
  • The entire unstrung bow much be able to pass through a 4 and 3/4th inch (12.07 cm) ring.

Traditional

TRAD
  • An arrow rest, arrow plate and cushion plunger are allowed.
  • A clicker, draw check and level are not allowed.
  • Front stabilizer no more than 12 inches (30.48 cm) long measured from the bow's riser.
  • Face walking is not allowed

Barebow

BB
  • A barebow may be of any type, recurve or compound.
  • No sight or any other markings that could be used for sighting are allowed.
  • An arrow rest, arrow plate and cushion plunger are allowed.
  • Any type of stabilizers.
  • A mechanical release aid is not allowed

Longbow

LB
  • A longbow must be constructed of one or two straight pieces so that the string does not touch the limbs when the bow is strung.
  • The bow may have a window and shelf, but no arrow rest is allowed.
  • No sight or any other markings that could be used for sighting are allowed.
  • Face walking is not allowed
  • An archer shall touch the arrow when nocked with the index finger against the nock or arrow. Finger position may not be changed during competition. In cases of physical deformity or handicap special dispensation shall be made.
